How to Become an Author

To submit your blog for STEMcIUB Website/ Newsletter:

  • Email the word file of your writing to iubstemc@gmail.com with the subject 'Blog for STEMcIUB'
  • Include 1-3 good quality images for the blog (theme pictures).

Blog Guideline:

1. The blog should be around 700-2500 words, depending on the topic. No more than 2500 words.

2. Select the topic and the audience

  • Pick up current work, debates, issues, etc. public are interested in.
  • Provide background information according to the level of expertise of your target audience on the given topic, to introduce them to it.
  • Put yourself in the shoes of your target audience and write in a way they would understand and enjoy reading the article.
  • Use Layman’s terms and explain jargons and new concepts when introduced.

3. Structure your writing

  • Use a punchy Intro! Convey ideas immediately, attract the attention of your readers from the get go.
  • Start with simpler ideas and concepts at the forefront.
  • Provide a background, do your research beforehand! Give an introduction along with what prior work has been done.
  • Start with the specifics and discuss the concept more as you go, getting more generalized and building the bigger picture by the end.
  • Use subsections to explain your idea clearly.
  • Use pictures from authentic sources.

4. Use keywords

  • Use at least 5 keywords, write them down separately.
  • Repeat the keywords after every 700 to 1000 words.

5. Title is the most important!

  • Should be the last step, write down at least 5 alternative titles to get a nice variety and choose one.
  • Use key words according to what people search.
  • It should convey the take away of your writing.
  • Use current buzzwords.
  • Title should be easier, not too long.

6. How to put references

  • Put all sources and references as hyperlinks, not scientific referencing style.

7. Use your storytelling skills!

  • Keep the audience captivated to read the full thing, use your writing and story-telling skills to take them on a journey.
